From the Book, 25 Years of Wurstfest Mugs: "With the pricing held firm at $7.50 and $9.50 and with the edition size cut back to 2000 total pieces, the 1978 Wurstfest Mug got the series back on track. The last few of the 2000 pieces were sold between the end of Wurstfest 1978 and the beginning of Wurstfest 1979--the scenario we always try for but don't always succeed with. Like the 1976 mug, the 1978 has always appealed in the secondary market, rarely bringing less than $100. The Texan Opa design, one of my favorites among the early designs, was borrowed from a now-forgotten piece of printed matter. Research for this writeup uncovered the fact that it had originally been drawn in the 1960s by Ernest Murphy, creator of the official Wurstfest Opa (Wurstfest trademark) for use in a local business venture." --Ken Armke
