From the Book, 25 Years of Wurstfest Mugs: "Missouri artist Lowell Davis, whose figurines of farm animals captured the nation in the 1980s, made a personal appearance at Opa's Haus during Wurstfest 1984--then promptly announced he was doing the design for the 1985 Wurstfest Mug. It was a classic, and we learned something: the design does not have to relate directly to Wurstfest to appeal. Because of the nationwide popularity of Lowell, the 1985 design was sold in some numbers to people who had never heard of Wurstfest! Both the mug and stein sold out quickly and have traded with frequency in the secondary market. The mug originally sold for $9.51. The stein, featuring another of Gerz master Edwin Breiden's stoneware figurines, originally sold for $42.50." --Ken Armke
