From the Book, 25 Years of Wurstfest Mugs: "As we understand the story, the lady who is the focal point of the design for the 1987 Wurstfest Mug is a personal friend of Lowell Davis. Lowell each year asked us for design ideas which he would resolutely ignore. For 1987, we asked for a farm animal polka band (see the 1992 design). The lady is what we got. Perhaps because of the comparatively staid design or perhaps because of another price increase brought on by a declining dollar, the 1987 mug did not sell out the first year. Today, the lady adds to the lore of the Wurstfest mug series. On the secondary market, the 1987 mug can be acquired at a very reasonable price. On the other hand, the stein, topped by Edwin Breiden's stoneware figurine of King Gambrinus, the mythical inventor of beer, sold out quickly and is a little pricey and elusive in the aftermarket. Original prices were $14.02 fore the mugs, $55.00 for the stein." --Ken Armke
